报告简介:When using appropriate materials and microfabrication techniques, the small dimensions and mechanical stability of micro structured devices allow for processes at high pressures without loss in safety. The largest area of applications has been demonstrated in chemistry, where extraction, synthesis and analyses often excel at high densities and high temperatures, but there are also interesting application in power fluidics, cryo-cooling, and for exploration to the unknown. I will present how we have built capability in pumping and valving by the use of stainless steel and paraffin actuation. How we are making high pressure silicon-glass and glass-glass chips with integrated electrical thin film sensors, using printed circuit boards to ease handling of the chips and integrating modules.

Microsystems at high temperatures or heated up to high temperatures have several interesting applications but are challenging due to the high mechanical and chemical thermal strains to the material. Hence, it is usually good to be working with ceramic materials and refractive metals. I will present how we have been working with the HTCC technology to make sensors and microfluidic components, but also how we are using other ceramic/metal manufacturing techniques for aerospace applications and sensors in high temperature reactors and melts.

报告人简介:Prof. Klas Hjort has a strong track-record on micro- and nanotechnologies for expanding printed circuit board technology to microfluidic systems for, e.g., biomedical analysis, medical sampling and sample preparation, microhydraulic actuation, and wireless wearable stretchable electronics. He received the M.Sc. degree in engineering physics and the Ph.D. degree in materials science from Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden, in 1988 and 1993, respectively. In 2008, he became a Professor of microsystems technology (MST) at Uppsala University, where he is the Head of the program.

Hjort is experienced in advanced microengineering. Previously, his focus was telecom applications, using optical and radio-frequency MEMS. Recently, he has focused on heterogeneous microsystems on stainless steel, flexible foils, ceramics and elastic substrates. Pioneering ion-track lithography in printed circuit board foils and laminates, he created integrated microwave and sensor components. In addition, he has demonstrated novel microfluidic handling systems, such as high-pressure sub-ccm micromechanical pumps and valves, microfluidic stretchable intelligence, microdialysis for protein sampling, and soft inertial fractionation devices.

Prof. Hjort has published more than 120 scientific journal articles and is inventor in several patents. Google Scholar presents more than 3,400 citations and an h-index of 32. In 2010 he was the recipient of a FiDiPro Professorship from the Finnish Distinguished Professorship Program, which he held for three years. As a member of MEMSWAVE, he was awarded as one of the finalists for the Descartes Prize 2002 of the Commission of the European Union.
